National Night Out Planning

FARMVILLE – It's time to start planning for National Night Out 2013, which is scheduled for August 6th, 2013. Last year the citizens took an impressive stand in the fight against crime by holding 12 events in neighborhoods across town, earning Farmville 19th place nationally in areas with a population of 15,000 or less.

Farmville Town residents can celebrate the fight against crime by hosting neighborhood block parties that bring neighbors, communities, and the police department together. McGruff, the crime dog, and police department members will visit neighborhoods hosting this event. Event hosts are asked to contact the Farmville Police Department with plans for their event by July 25th.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug-prevention awareness, develop and strengthen partnerships between police and residents, and generate support for anti-crime programs such as Neighborhood Watch, Crime Solvers and Business Watch.

Last year was an incredible success and the community is still reaping the benefits. We know this year will prove as beneficial to us as last year. “So far, six neighborhoods are on board for this year's celebration and we're hoping for some new neighborhoods to get involved this year. It's always a fun night for the citizens and the police so please mark your calendars” says Detective C. W. Moss.
