Fatal Accident In Cumberland

CUMBERLAND – Benjamin Boyd, 62, of Cumberland, has died as the result of a single-vehicle accident, which occurred on Tuesday, May 28, in Cumberland County, according to State Police.
Trooper R.M. Chambliss responded to the scene of the accident on Route 45 near Davenport Road at 5:16 p.m. Tuesday evening, according to a press release.
“A 2011 Chevrolet HHR, a crossover vehicle, traveling north on Route 45 ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle traveled into the ditch, struck a culvert and caused the vehicle to become airborne. Eventually, the vehicle came to rest on the side of the northbound lane of Route 45 but the vehicle was facing in the southbound direction,” the press release, issued Friday, May 31, states.
The release goes on to state that a passenger, Benjamin K. Boyd, 29, also of Cumberland, was ejected from the vehicle.
According to the report, none of the occupants in the vehicle were wearing a seatbelt.
Both the driver and passenger were transported to VCU's Medical Center, according to the release, where Benjamin Boyd, 62, later died of his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, according to State Police.
