GLADSTONE, May 30 – Thomas Robert (Papa) Seay, 84, of Gladstone, died Monday, May 27, 2013 at his residence. Born in Gladstone on February 17, 1929, he was a son of the late Charlie O. Seay and the late Janie Cook Seay Howe.

He was a US Army veteran serving his country during the Korean War. Mr. Seay was a member of Union Baptist Church, the V.F.W., the Toga Fire Department, and was actively involved in his community. He was a retired US postal carrier for Gladstone and served as a police officer for the town of Appomattox. The accomplishment he was most proud of was being able to spend his life living and farming his homeplace.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia S. Young and husband, Thomas of Clifton Forge; son, Tony Wayne Seay of Lynch-burg; brother, William R. (Dick) Seay and wife, Jean of Toga; two grandchildren, Melissa Adcock Bradley and husband, Greg of Appomattox and Robert Wilson Adcock of Chatham; 12 great-grandchildren; and extended family whom he raised, Michael Colvin and wife, Christina of Appomattox, Kim Cawthorne and husband, Gary of Toga, Toni Scruggs of Buckingham, Saman-tha Palmer and husband, Michael of Glenmore. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Omar Seay.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Lorene Rickmond of Amherst and Ashby and Wanda Mayo of Buck-ingham.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 30 in Union Baptist Church by the Rev. Jennings Duncan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and V.F.W. # 9855 combined honor guard.
