BUCKINGHAM CO., February 12 – Sherman Sewell Self, 89, of Buckingham County, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Woodlands in Farmville. Born August 5, 1923, he was son of the late James Holman and Mildred Baber Self.
Mr. Self lived his entire life on the farm where he was born, enjoying all aspects of farming, especially raising cattle and growing and harvesting hay. He also enjoyed hunting, visiting with neighbors, friends, and family.
He is survived by a sister, Neoma Bradshaw of Richmond; niece, Diane Steger Spencer (Norman); nephews, Tommy Bradshaw (Genie), Barclay Bradshaw (Debra), Samuel Martin, and James Martin (Sylvia), and a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Martha Spencer Self, brother, Lumford Lomax Self, and two sisters, Amy Self Steger and Ophelia Self Martin.
The family would especially like to thank Roosevelt, Lena, and Cliff Ayres for their many years of devotion.
Graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, February 14, at 2 p.m. in the Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery.
