The Fuqua School boys basketball team shook off a hangover from Friday night's loss to Virginia Commonwealth Conference regular-season champ Amelia Academy, and then had to shake off a challenge from Tidewater Academy on Tuesday night in a 55-50 victory.

The win secures a second place finish for the Falcons in the VCC standings, and the No. 2 seed in next week's conference tournament.

The normally patient and deliberate Warriors jumped out to an uncharacteristic 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and were up 29-20 at the break, before Fuqua slowly crawled back into the game.

FS trailed 43-41 at the beginning of the fourth quarter before outscoring TA 14-7 in the fourth to complete the come-from-behind victory.

The Falcons were led in scoring by junior guard Antonio Gonzalez, who had 13 points on the evening, while Carter Cunningham had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. Cunningham also had a key three-point-play and a big offensive rebound on a missed free throw late in the game to help preserve the rally.

Al Baker and Boris Ngundji scored eight points apiece, while Davis Cyrus added seven.

Fuqua was scheduled to wrap up its regular-season on Friday night at home against Kenston Forest.

The Falcons will also celebrate its annual Hall of Fame Night prior to the game. This year's inductees include Jim Saunders (1972), W.C. Sprouse Jr. (1972), Scott Andrews (1983), Christy Wilson Larkin (1992) and Autumn Barton Harbour (1995).
