January 31 – “We must always have old memories and young hopes.”
Can you believe the first month of 2013 is over? The weather has been something else this month temperatures from 13 to 70 degrees, sun, wind, rain, and snow. I believe we have had it all.
The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will be having their annual Pancake Supper on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 5-7 p.m. at the firehouse. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, bacon, apples and drink. The cost is a donation. Everyone is invited. Carryout will be available.
Prospect Historical Society will meet Tuesday Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Prospect Fire House. They welcome everyone to join them. They are very excited about things happening with their projects at this time. They feel fortunate with items which have been donated to them, some of the items are: 1854 medical books, cookbooks, a register from the Hubbard Funeral (located in Prospect) as well as some other items. They appreciate any and all donations.
Peggy Kelsey and Julie Shield attended the Longwood Garden Club meeting Monday at Centra's High Street House hosted by Centra and Kerry Mossler. Peggy and Julia received blue ribbons on their “Savour All the Winter Long” horizontal arrangements. Matt Wicichowski presented a program on Propagating Plants – Preparing for Spring Planting.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows along with Ann Norton traveled to Richmond on Monday.
Farmville High School classmates, Flora Woodson Bolt and Shirley Newman Fowlkes met at Merk's Place last Thursday for lunch and to discuss the upcoming school reunion coming up in June.
Justin Chilton visited his mother, Jennifer Kelsey Dixon and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kelsey the last of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. John Fulcher enjoyed supper at the Pizza Hut on Monday where they helped their daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Fulcher, celebrate her birthday. Other family members were present.
Neighbors, family and friends are praying for a speedy recovery for those that are sick at this time; John Gager, Dave Chapman, Howard Campbell, Betty Noblin, Wendy Richardson, William Whitter and Debbie Goodrick.
Friends are extending their sincere sympathy to Courtney Winslow on the death of her mother.
The Special Blessing mission group; Shirley Fulcher, Shirley Mottley, Evelyn Shelton and Jeannette Tarlton, of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church at Prospect on Tuesday visited with Mary Lula Allen at her home and then Mildred Flood at the Moore Center followed by lunch at Applebee's. Judy Mottley and Barbara Hanson joined them for lunch.
Olive Branch United Methodist Church will be having Ash Wednesday Service on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites to come and worship with them every Sunday; Sunday school is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Katherine Todd will be with them this week.
Calvary Chapel – Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am. They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible Study for all age groups at 7 p.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.
