ARRINGTON, January 3 – Robert Clifford Murray, 63, of Arrington, died peacefully on Monday, December 31, 2012 at Fairmont Crossing Nursing and Rehab Center at Amherst. He was born June 19, 1949 in Oakland, CA, a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Murray and Maxine Sevits Murray.
Mr. Murray was CIO and Director of Computing for Hampton-Sydney Collage as well as doing computer service for the National Wildlife Federation and in 1969 was named Man of the Year by the Montgomery Business Gazette of Gaithersburg, Maryland.
He is survived by his wife, Karla Liebl Murray; stepdaughter, Heather H. Dunton of Midlothian; stepson, Richard Allen Hight Jr. of Madison Heights; sister, Katherine Ann Murray and husband, John Martin of Chico, CA; two brothers, J. Alexander Murray of New York, NY and William Edward Murray of Oakland, CA; niece, Kali H. Martin; nephew, Jaron A. Martin; uncle and aunt, Clifford Sevits and wife, Sharon of Dorris, CA and Delorze Sundkvist also of Dorris, CA; two grandchildren, Karleish and Connor Dunton and four step-grandchildren, Justin Nash, Josie Tucker, Leah and Cole McFaden. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Gaillord Murray.
A public gathering to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, January 6 at 3 p.m. at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston, where the family will share memories and receive friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced at the family residence for his internment.
The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to any environmental or educational charity.
