Two Dead Near Rice

PRINCE EDWARD – Virginia State Police are investigating two fatal shootings that occurred at a Prince Edward County residence, according to a media release from the Virginia State Police.

The Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 2) to respond to a disturbance at a residence on Miller Lake Road, according to the release.

When the sheriff's deputies arrived at the residence, the media release states, they were fired upon by an individual outside the residence. There was an exchange of gunfire between the individual and the deputies, according to the release.

The State Police Third Division Tactical Team was then notified and responded to the scene, according to the release. When the Tactical Team approached the residence they discovered a deceased male in the yard. A short time later, they discovered another male deceased inside the residence, according to the media release.

Evidence at the scene indicates the individual inside the residence was shot before deputies arrived on scene, the release states.

The shootings remain under investigation at this time by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Appomattox Field Office.

No names have been released yet by law enforcement.
