PRINCE EDWARD – The Virginia State Police is continuing its investigation into two fatal shootings that occurred Sunday night (Dec. 2) at a Prince Edward County residence. At this stage of the investigation, a State Police December 6 release cited, law enforcement investigators believe that the incident was a murder-suicide.
The Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday to respond to a disturbance at a residence on Miller Lake Road, according to the release. When the sheriff's deputies arrived, the release stated, they were fired upon by an individual outside the residence. It was also cited in the release that there was an exchange of gunfire between the individual and the deputies.
According to the release, the State Police Third Division Tactical Team was then notified and responded to the scene. When the Tactical Team approached the residence they discovered a 21-year-old male in the yard deceased. A short time later, they discovered another male, 51, deceased inside the residence. The police allege that further investigation has revealed that the individual inside of the residence was shot by his nephew before deputies arrived on scene.
The shootings remain under investigation at this time by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Appomattox Field Office.
