BUCKINGHAM – If it's sweater weather then it must be time for the Curious Corner Store, the annual fundraiser sponsored by the Woman's Club of Buckingham County.
The grand opening is Friday, November 2 and the store will also be open November 3, 5, 6, and 7, from 8:30 to 4:30 each day. As it has in the past, Curious Corner Store will be located at the VFW Hall on Route 60.
This year marks the 32nd year for the Curious Corner Store, a weeklong project that offers used clothing in good condition and lots of miscellaneous household items that members have gleaned from their attics, garages, and closets.
The inventory also includes Rada Knives, fresh pecans from Georgia, and homemade baked goods. You will also be able to order natural evergreen Christmas wreaths for the holidays.
Great lunches will be prepared by WCBC members and served each day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Curious Corner Store features something for everyone-at a great bargain. And the best part is that the money you spend at Curious Corner Store helps fund the service projects of the WCBC.
Mount Tabor United Methodist Church is having a Yard Sale and Breakfast on Saturday, November 3, beginning at 7 a.m.
Along with some great bargains, you'll be able to enjoy a great breakfast.
Proceeds will be used for the church's ongoing expenses. Mount Tabor UMC is located on Route 56, James River Highway.
Ed Dike, BCHS activities director, has come up with a great idea to raise money for athletics. On Saturday, November 3, the BCHS Athletic Department will host its first Buckfest
Described as a Buckingham County Festival, Buckfest 2012 will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., at Buckingham County Middle School.
Buckfest will feature vendors, arts and crafts, yard sales, and great food, including kettle corn, Brunswick stew, and funnel cakes. Along with several bounce houses, there will activities for kids of all ages.
This event offers a great way for the community and the school system to come together to support our youth.

On Saturday, November 3, at 10 a.m., Browns Chapel United Methodist Church is having an auction to help raise funds for the church's new sign.
Auctioneer Bill Talbert, of Francisco Auction Company, is donating his services for this fundraiser. And, along with raising funds, the morning promises to be fun-filled.
Church members have donated lots and lots of stuff so there is a great inventory of items to be auctioned. And, there will also be some great baked goods that will be placed on the auction block. Of course, food and beverages will be available.
Browns Chapel UMC is located north of Dillwyn, on Gravel Hill Road, Route 617.
Area F of the Baptist General Convention of VA, Inc. will have its Week of Prayer closing service on Sunday, November 4, 4 p.m., at Mourners Valley Baptist Church.
Guest preacher will be the Reverend Dr. Mary Kitty Smith, pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church. The choir and ushers of Oak Grove Baptist will also serve.

On Monday, November 5, at 7 p.m., First Baptist Church of Dillwyn, in a combined effort with area churches, will host the World Day of Prayer program.
The theme continues to be In Step with the Spirit through the Fruit of the Spirit JOY. This year's focus is on Asia, some of the challenges its people face each day, and how they can be aware of the joy found in the Holy Spirit.
Come and learn about these issues and join in prayer for them. There will also be a special time of prayer for the upcoming election. All are welcome.
Centenary United Methodist Church will host a Family Dinner and Movie Night on Friday, November 9.
Dinner, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., features a Taco Bar. Then, the movie, Grace Card, will start at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $7; and kids six years and younger get in free.
This fundraiser will benefit the Samaritan's Purse Christmas Child Shoe Box ministry as well as other Christmas outreach projects. Centenary UMC is located at 12247 S Constitution Rte (Route 20), Scottsville. Please call 434-286-3379 for additional information.
Here's a great way to enjoy some delicious BBQ while supporting 4-H programming, volunteer development, and 4-H program scholarships for area youth in financial need.
The BBQ, planned for Friday, November 9, will feature chopped pork for $8 per pound; Boston butts for $30 each, whole loin for $40 each, half-loin $25 each, Myer's Recipe BBQ sauce for $5 per pint, and mild BBQ sauce for $5 per pint.

Continuing to raise money for its new fellowship hall, Sharon Baptist Church is having a really LARGE Yard Sale on Saturday, November 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at a residence located on Route 20, at 6656 S. Constitution Route.
Inventory includes household items, furniture, eclectic collections and much, much more.
Along with the Yard Sale, there will also be a Bake Sale and HOMEMADE apple butter.
Now, if those great cooks at Sharon will include homemade breads and rolls that will hold up to a good slathering of apple butter, I'll be the first one in line.
This sale will be held rain or shine.
On Sunday, November 11, beginning at 3 p.m., the Pastor Aid Ministry of First Liberty Baptist Church will host The 66 Books of the Bible.
Deacon Oscar T. Holman will serve as narrator. The program will open with Phyllis Tillerson offering a dramatic recitation of The Creation, a poem written by James Weldon Johnson. Music will be provided by the choir of Spreading Oak Baptist Church.
The First Liberty Baptist Church Family invites everyone to join with them for this inspiring and informative program. The church is located on Route 633, Rock Mill Road.
Parents and students are invited to Buckingham County High School's annual Knight's Quest College Night, sponsored by the ECMC Foundation, on Tuesday, November 13.
The evening will begin with pizza and beverages at 6 p.m., followed by activities scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Sessions will include How Going to College Can Change Your Life, Paying for College, and Scholarship Searches and Scams.
Participating students will have the opportunity to win one of four $500 scholarships for college from the ECMC Foundation.
Because this event is an excellent opportunity to begin preparing for the college admission process, students of all grade levels and their parents are encouraged to attend.
Mourners Valley Baptist Church will host a Thanksgiving Day Service on Saturday, November 17, at 11 a.m.
The Reverend Mary Alice Eldridge, associate pastor of Baptist Union Baptist Church, will be the guest preacher; and, the Baptist Union Baptist Church Choir and Ushers will serve.
After the service, a Thanksgiving Day meal will be shared and prizes will be given away.

Here's a great way for youth ages nine and older to learn how to COOK. Fun with Foods, the ever-popular 4-H program, will be starting on Tuesday, November 13, at the Buckingham Agricultural Center.
Classes will meet from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m., each Tuesday through December 4. Cost is $25. Fee must be paid prior to start of classes. To register or for more information call the Buckingham Extension Office at 969-4261 or email rcclaboug@vt.edu.
Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center is offering a Going Green Christmas Camp, December 1-2, for ages five through 13.
