PRINCE EDWARD – What has been a long year for the County voter registrar's office will get a little longer.
The circuit court has set a special election to fill the unexpired term of County Treasurer Mable Shanaberger for December 11, marking the fifth time voters will go to the polls for 2012.
The deadline for candidates to file for the special election is October 12, which applies to party nominees and independents seeking the position. County Democrats have scheduled a caucus for October 2 to elect a nominee and local Party Chairwoman Pattie Cooper-Jones reported Wednesday that she is aware of three candidates: Taikein Cooper, Donna Nunnally and Marshall Womack.
Prince Edward Republicans have not set a meeting, but the Party still has time to consider nominating a candidate.
