August 30 – Happy Birthday wishes are sent out to Walter Stimpson, of Farmville, celebrating on Friday, August 31, Shawn Gough, of Winginia, celebrating on Saturday, September 1, and Dorothy M. Micklen, of Buckingham and Michael Boyles, of Cumberland, celebrating on Monday, September 3.

Welcome home to Rene Marion of Cumberland who spent Thursday, August 23rd thru Saturday, August 25 in the hospital.

Congratulations to Alan and Tammy Gough of Winginia. The couple will celebrate their wedding anniversary on Monday, September 3.

Welcome home to Virginia Boyles of Cumberland who underwent outpatient surgery on Monday, August 27.

Pete and Annie May Miles, of Dillwyn, visited in the home of Kevin and Rene Marion and daughters Casey and Cheyenne in Cumberland on Tuesday, August 28.

Our thoughts and prayers go out this week to those who are sick and shut-in.

Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, along with Jane Cooke of Brookneal, all enjoyed an afternoon of great food, fun and fellowship at a Farmville Restaurant on Wednesday, August 29.

Welcome home to Ailene Snoddy of Arvonia, who had an outpatient procedure on Tuesday, August 28, in Charlottesville.

Note: The 2012 Amelia County Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 12 thru Sunday, Sept. 16. This will be followed by The Five County Fair in Farmville, scheduled for Tuesday, September 18 thru Saturday, September 22.

Reminder: Labor Day weekend is Friday, August 31 thru Monday, September 3. It's the last official summer holiday weekend. Have a happy and safe weekend, as many will be traveling. Allow extra time to reach your destination.

The Arvonia Christian Fellowship Church Thrift Store, located on U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn in Arvonia is open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds from the Thrift Store are used to help individuals and families in their hour of need. The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a non-profit organization, will hold their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, September 8 at 1 p.m. at Browns Chapel United Methodist Church, located off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 617 (Gravel Hill Rd.) Spreading God's Gifts, Inc. is a local non-profit home grown faith based ministry organization tht assists working individuals or families in need-primarily serving Buckingham and surrounding counties.

On Saturday evening, September 8 from 8 p.m. at the Buckingham County Middle School Cafetorium (located on High School Road in Buckingham). Spreading God's Gifts will host a benefit Gospel Music Concert and Bake Sale Auction.

Throughout the evening, special music will feature Keith Jones and friends Dennis Cooley and Lisa Cooley from Chesapeake.

Bake sale auctions will be held throughout the evening with Bill Talbert of Francisco Auction Company as the auctioneer.

Funds resulting from this event will help individuals and families in the hour of need. All are invited to make plans to join in an evening of great food and music.

Cedar Baptist Church, located just off of U.S. Rt. 15 North of Dillwyn on State Rt. 650 (Trents Mill Rd.) hosts a Men's Promise Keepers Prayer Breakfast Sunday mornings (excluding fifth Sundays) from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Southern Gospel Music Recording artist Danny Figgins (the singing policeman) from Front Royal will be in concert at Arvonia Christian Fellowship Church, located off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 672 in Arvonia on Saturday evening, September 1. A buffet supper will be at 6 p.m. followed by the concert at 7 p.m. He will also sing Sunday morning Hatcher Baptist Church in Cumberland at 11 a.m. at the Closing Service of the day at First Baptist Church in Powhatan at 7 p.m. This will be followed by refreshments in the church fellowship hall.
