Fuqua Volleyball Has First Practice

Practice began for the Fuqua School volleyball teams on Monday night at Gilmer Gymnasium. In all, 21 players turned out for the first practice of the junior varsity and varsity squads.

“Everyone I thought would be here is here,” said Fuqua head coach Lora Smith, whose team lost three to graduation and will return seven seniors. “We should be in position to have a good season. One thing I like is that we won't have to do a whole lot of teaching. Even the players who will be on the junior varsity have experience in the system. We'll be able to fine tune a lot of things they already know. That will be a big help.”

The Fuqua volleyball teams will begin their seasons on August 27 at home against Central of Lunenburg. The Falcons' first VCC match will be at Kenston Forest on September 4. Fuqua will play six of its first seven conference games on the road, with the Falcons' home VCC opener coming on September 18 against Amelia Academy.
