Ruby Claudine Parker, 65, of Weatherford, Oklahoma was born September 18, 1946 in Arvonia to Herbert and Cassie (Newton) Wharam and passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at her home in Oklahoma. She was the ninth of ten children. Her parents passed away early in her life and she was raised by an older sister, Bertha Toney.
After graduating Buckingham High School in 1965 she married Jerry Wayne Parker. Their only child, Mary, was born in 1967. After years of moving around due to her husband's work, they settled in Weatherford in 1978. She started work at “The Center” which later became the YMCA and worked as the membership coordinator for 25 years. She enjoyed watching her grandsons, Parker and Connor, in their many activities. Mrs. Parker was very dedicated to the mission of the “Y” and volunteered her time generously.
Mrs. Parker is survived by a daughter, Mary Howl and husband, Brad; and two grandsons, Parker and Connor all of Weatherford; two brothers, Sammy Wharam and wife, Fay of New Canton and Jasper Cecil Wharam and wife, Peggy of Dillwyn; and a sister, Ethel Almond and husband, Larry of Arvonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Cassie, husband, Jerry, four brothers, Glover, Warren, Kenneth and Suddith and two sisters, Charlotte and Bertha.
Memorials may be made to the Great Plains Family YMCA.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 8, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Stephenson officiating.
