FARMVILLE – The first fuse was lit in 2002 and Farmville's “Fireworks After Dark” has been rocketing skyward ever since.
The annual Fourth Of July celebration will be held on the third of July this year, next Tuesday, with gates opening at the Farmville Regional Airport at 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per carload.
The music begins at 6 p.m. with Upscale Band, followed by a 7:30 talent show, with Soulful Expressions taking the stage at 8:15.
The fireworks will red glare the stars' spangling from 9:30 to 10 p.m.
Thirty additional minutes of Soulful Expressions will follow the fireworks' grand finale.
The sponsors request that nobody bring their pets. No pets allowed. But fireworks and pets don't work well together anyway, frightening the animals. Tell them about it when you return home. Or show them pictures.
Coolers, on the other hand, are welcome, though do not bring glass bottles. Stick to plastic and aluminum drink containers.
Festival sponsors note that they reserve the right to inspect all coolers.
Meherrin Fire And Rescue will give area residents a second straight night of fireworks, lighting up the sky on Wednesday, July 4, the evening after the fireworks at the Farmville airport.
The annual Fourth of July event will be held, as always, at the firehouse.
Brunswick stew will be available beginning at 11 a.m. and food and craft vendors will add to the welcoming feel.
Music will be provided by Class Act Band and Hard Drive.
The fireworks will lift off at dusk.
And no alcohol or pets are permitted.
