Published 3:25 pm Thursday, June 21, 2012

The Cumberland Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in the Circuit Courtroom at the Cumberland Courthouse in Cumberland, Virginia, to conduct a public hearing pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-2204, which such hearing may be continued or adjourned, as required under applicable law, and to consider the following item and taking actions in furtherance thereof:

Code Amendment 11-07- Proposed Amendment to the Code of Cumberland County: The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors will review a proposed amendment to the County Code entitled “An ordinance amending Chapter 74 Zon-ing of the Cumberland County Code..” The proposed amendment would (i) amend the text of the zoning ordinance to define and permit recreational vehicle parks or campgrounds which would be permitted only by conditional use permit in A-2, Agri-cultural zoning district and (ii) amend the section of the Code that regulates special temporary use permits allowing for annual renewals at staff level after initial issuance of the permit by the Board of Supervisors.

The public purpose of the proposed amendment is to define recreational vehicle parks and campgrounds and allow such parks in the A-2, Agricultural zoning districts by conditional use permits so that the demands to protect the public health, safety and welfare, including needs at campsites such as sewer, water, sanitation, security and traffic can be adequately addressed. Housing for construction workers is regulated via special temporary use permits. The amendment would allow such permits to be renewed on an annual basis after initial issuance by the Board of Supervisors and to have such renewal be approved at the staff level, rather than requiring action by the Board of Supervisors.
