An American History Lesson

Editor, The Herald:

Nothing protects “against the folly of the future” better than a “knowledge of the past,” according to John Piper in his article entitled “The Value of Learning History.” So maybe a lesson in the history of our nation would be a good starting place before we get too bombarded by political speeches from those seeking our vote in November.

What makes America unique? Why do we call this nation the greatest nation on the earth? Could it have something to do with our history . . . our heritage? Brad Archer and Travis Witt must think so, because they are traveling throughout central Virginia with a message we should all be able to agree upon.

“America: 911” will take a look at the past in order to help us guard against the folly that Piper mentioned. This Sunday, we will have the opportunity to travel with Brad and Travis back through history, because, according to John Piper, each person needs to have a grasp of the past so that they can understand the present and prepare for the future.

The Foundation for America will be conducting this event here in Farmville at Faith Bible Fellowship Church, 207 N. Bridge Street, on Sunday, July 1st at 6:30 pm. Since history is not associated with either political party, neither is this event. It is open to all who believe in this great nation and want to see it continue to be great. I'll be there and I hope you will, too!
