Editor, The Herald:

Prince Edward County TRIAD, our local crime prevention organization for senior citizens, would like to thank all of the people that helped to make our most recent event on May 18th a success. Approximately 80 senior citizens and friends of seniors participated in the event.

We were happy to have Mr. Randy Davis of the Virginia Attorney General's Office Medicaid Fraud and Abuse team with us as well as representatives from the Treasurer of Virginia's Unclaimed Property Division. Davis provided us with some updated Medicaid fraud information as well as some new information concerning elder abuse and neglect. Michelle Cunningham and Vicki Bridgeman, both of the Treasurer's Unclaimed Property Division, shared some terrific information about how citizens may have unclaimed assets being held by the Treasurer of Virginia.

In fact, during our event they were able to locate a total of $2,271.67 in unclaimed assets for attendees and showed us how to claim those assets.

We would especially like to thank Donnie Simmons and Farmville Moose Lodge # 968 for allowing us to continue to hold TRIAD events at their lodge building on Longwood Ave. TRIAD continues to grow and provide valuable information to our seniors and we look forward to our next event in August. If anyone has any questions about TRIAD or crime prevention, they may contact Karla Ellington at 434-298-6897 or Sgt. Bill Hogan at 434-392-2126.
