May 31 – Happy Birthday wishes go out to Mildred Ragland, of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Dillwyn celebrating on Saturday, June 2, Cathy Trammel, of Farmville, celebrating on Sunday, June 3, Chuck Fairchild, of New Canton, celebrating on Monday, June 4, and Jo Lang, of New Canton, celebrating on Thursday, June 7.

Billy and Louise Boyles, of Amelia, and Pete and Annie May Miles, of Dillwyn, visited in the home of James and Virginia Boyles in Cumberland on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28.

Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend Friday, May 25, through Sunday, May 27 at “The Art in the Park Festival” held at Gyspy Hill Park in Staunton. A great time was noted.

Welcome home to James Boyles of Cumberland, who underwent surgery at Johnson Willis Hospital in Richmond on Friday, may 25 and returned home on Saturday, May 26. He is said to be doing okay as of this writing.

Our thoughts and prayers to out this week to those who are sick and shut-in.

Elizabeth Stone, of Dillwyn, spent a few days last week with her daughter, Denise Anderson in Colonia Beach.

Rodney and Sandra Ownby, of Dillwyn, visited Earlene Baker in Richmond on Friday, May 25.

Our sympathy is extended to the Dowdy family of Cumberland. Sue Dowdy, age 66, of Cumberland, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25. A funeral service was held on Monday, May 28 at Fitzaerald Baptist Church in Cumberland. She will be remembered for her great love for others. She will be greatly missed by all.

Pete and Annie May Miles visited in the home of special friends in the Lord, Bud and Ella Mae Dunn, of Farmville, on Friday, May 25. A nice visit was noted.

Spreading God's Gifts, Inc. is a local non-profit home-grown faith-based ministry organization that assists working individuals or families in need. Primarily serves Buckingham and surrounding counties. On Saturday evening, June 2 from 4-6 p.m. in the fellowship hall at the First Baptist Church in Dillwyn, Spreading God's Gifts will host a pulled pork bar-b-que dinner and Gospel music concert for a donation. The menu include pulled pork barbecue, coleslaw, baked beans, chips, drink and dessert. Special music will be presented by Second Time Around. Funds resulting from this event will be to help individuals and families in the hour of need. All are invited to join in an evening of great food and music. Spreading God's Gifts Inc. holds monthly meetings each second Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Browns Chapel united Methodist Church, located off of State Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 617 (Gravel Hill Rd.). Cedar Baptist Church, located just off of U.S. Rt. 15 North of Dillwyn on State Rt. 650 (Trents Mill Rd.), hosts a Men's Promise Keepers Prayer Breakfast Sunday mornings (excluding fifth Sundays) from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Arvonia Christian Fellowship Church, located off of U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn in Arvonia on State Route 672, will host a Gospel Sing and Supper on Saturday, June 2. A buffet supper will begin at 6 p.m. followed by Gospel music from church singers and musicians beginning at 7 p.m. A love offering will be received. All are cordially invited to attend.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a non-profit organization, will hold their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m. at Mount Tabor Baptist Church, located just off of U.S. Route 20 North of Dillwyn or U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 652 (Bridgeport Rd.) in Arvonia. All members are cordially invited to attend and bring a covered dish. Tea will be provided by the Association. Arvonia Christian Fellowship Church Thrift Store, located on US. Route 15 North of Dillwyn is open Monday though Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. All proceeds from the thrift store are used to help individuals and families in their hour of need.
