Master Sergeant Retired James Marvin Yoder, 72

MAY 29 – Master Sergeant Retired James Marvin Yoder, 72, of Farmville went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2012. He was born on August 26, 1939 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Millard and Katherine (Scarberry) Yoder. He died peacefully in the arms of family, with the support of many friends after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Yoder graduated from Greenbrier Military Academy in 1957 and joined the Army where he valiantly served our country until his retirement in 1978. He began his second career in 1980 with the Department of Corrections and retired for the second time in 2002. He loved farming, fishing and traveling with his lovely wife, Vada Ilene Yoder. He was a long-time member of the Maranatha Baptist Church.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Vada Ilene; children, Kim Lang Yoder (Le'), Patricia Hurt (Jimmy), Eugene Lester, Wilma Jean Altice (Richard), and Jerry Howerton; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; brothers, Kenneth Yoder (Sharon) of Tornado, WV and Harold Yoder of Georgia as well as boyhood friends, Ronny Williams and Bob Blair of Charleston, WV and good friend, Don Campbell of Keysville.

A funeral service was held on Monday, May 28, in the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
