MASSACHUSETTS, May 23 – Harry E. Mottley Jr., 79, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts since 1972, formerly of New Jersey and Farmville, died Friday, December 16, 2011 peacefully at home in Pittsfield.

A Korean War veteran, he enlisted with the United States Air Force in August 1952 and served until June 1964. He continued as an active reservist from 1964 to 1984 retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. He was an active member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) for over 30 years.

Mr. Mottley leaves his wife, the former Ann T. Claffie, whom he married October 29, 1992. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Don and wife, Marianne Mottley of Columbus, Ohio, Clay and wife, Yamilla of Lawrenceville, New Jersey and Robert V. Mottley of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; two daughters, Karen F. Mottley of Highland Lakes, New Jersey and Kathlyn M. Bender and husband, David Bender of Toms River, New Jersey; grandsons, Bryan and Connor of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and Sam Bender of Toms River, New Jersey; two brothers, James V. Mottley and wife, Seliflor of Falls Church, and Robert A. Mottley of Farmville; and a sister, Carolyn M. Dixon and husband, Wesley of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at the Westview Cemetery on South Main Street, Farmville. The Rev. Sylvia Meadows, senior pastor of the Farmville United Methodist Church, will officiate. A Military Honor Guard will assist. Following the service, the Mottley family will welcome friends at the home of Robert Mottley, Third Avenue in Farmville.
