BUCKINGHAM – Straight Street-Buckingham will host its annual fundraising banquet on Saturday, March 17, 6 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Dillwyn.

Dinner, catered by Dale Wright and Nancy Eagle, will consist of heavy hors d'oeuvres.

After dinner, Just Us Country Gospel Band will provide a fun-filled, toe-tapping program.

Hat Rally at Spreading Oak

Spreading Oak Baptist Church, in Arvonia, is sponsoring a Hat Rally on Sunday, March 18, at 3 p.m., to raise money for a Zion Sunday School Union field trip.

Thomas Hutcherson will be the emcee. The program will also feature the Jewel Gospel Singers. All are invited.

Red Cross Bloodmobile

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Buckingham on Wednesday, March 21, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., at Heritage Hall.

Masonic Lodges of the 17th District are sponsoring this visit.

Easter Egg Fundraiser

Friday, March 23, is the last day to order homemade Easter Eggs from B.A.S., Buckingham Active Seniors.

These tasty treats are flavored confectionary creations containing a base of powdered sugar, think peanut butter balls, or cream cheese. Then the egg-shaped treat is dipped in a delicious chocolate coating.

B.A.S. is offering a choice of peanut butter, maple, coconut, or chocolate mint for $5 each. A Black Forest Truffle egg is available for $8.

To place an order, contact any B.A.S. members or call Winnie Brown at (434)983-2006.

Orders will be available for pickup between Thursday, April 5, and Friday, April 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Buckingham County Administration Building.

All orders must be paid for in advance so act now to reserve these tasty treats to fill all those Easter baskets. And, don't forget to order a few for yourself.

Willow Branch Performs at Sharon Baptist Church

Sharon Baptist Church will host the award winning bluegrass band, Willow Branch, on Saturday, March 24.

The evening will include soup, chili, and gospel bluegrass. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7.

Although there is no admission charge, a love offering will be accepted to support the Sharon Fellowship Hall Building Fund.

“Come join us for good food, good fellowship and great bluegrass,” invited a spokesperson.

Cash Bingo at Toga VFD

The Auxiliary for the Toga Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a night of Cash Bingo on Friday, March 23, at the Toga Firehouse on Route 24. Proceeds will benefit the Auxiliary.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Bingo starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $20. And, food will be available.

Please note that no one under 18 will be allowed to play.

Family Game Night at Curdsville Community Center

From 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 23, the Curdsville Community Center is hosting a Family Game Night.

Bring your favorite board game or cards and get ready for a great evening of family-friendly fun and fellowship.

Popcorn and soft drinks will be available. Donations will be gratefully accepted. All proceeds will be shared between the Community Center and Madeline's House, a safe house for women and their children.

Curdsville Community Center is located in the old Curdsville School, located on Route 633, Schoolhouse Road, just a short distance off Route 15 at Curdsville.

Step Show Competition

Buckingham Steppers are hosting a Step Show Competition on Saturday, March 24, beginning at 5 p.m., in the gymnasium at Buckingham County High School.

Teams from across the state will be competing.

Admission is $10 for ages eight and up; $5 for ages 4-7; and children 3 and under will be admitted free.

Buckingham Greenery Featured on PBS

Buckingham Greenery, Incorporated-Interior Plants, a Buckingham-based business, will be featured in the season premier of Virginia Home Grown. This will begin the program's twelfth season.

According to the PBS schedule, the program will air on Channel 23 on Tuesday, March 27, at 8 p.m. The program should also air on the PBS station in Charlottesville, so check your local listings.

Wanted: Musicians

The Dillwyn 100th Anniversary Committee is searching for area bands who would like to showcase their talent at Buckingham County Day, Saturday, May 12.

This year, the Buckingham Lions Club, which hosts Buckingham County Day, is partnering with Dillwyn to celebrate the town's centennial anniversary. The celebration will officially open with a parade at 10 a.m., Come Home to Dillwyn,

Festivities will take place in Dillwyn. Plans include arts and crafts, vendors, activities for children and youth, educational and informational exhibits and displays, food, and music.

The covered Pavilion at Ellis Acres Memorial Park will be the venue for music and entertainment. Free shuttle bus service will be available throughout the day.

The Dillwyn 100th Anniversary Committee is hoping to provide a variety of music through out the day. Bands or groups who would like to volunteer to perform are asked to call John Staton at 983-2938.

4-H Easter Break Field Day

The Buckingham Office of the Virginia Extension Service is hosting a 4-H Easter Break Field Day on Tuesday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Buckingham Agricultural Center.

This fun-filled day for kids, ages five through 13, will feature age appropriate games, activities, prizes, special snacks and much more. Kids will be grouped according to their age.

Please note that participants are responsible for bringing their lunch.

Arvonia VFD Auction

On Saturday, April 7, beginning at 10 a.m., the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual spring auction at the firehouse.

Thus far, the inventory includes lots of miscellaneous items-new and used. The list offers tools, furniture, books, lamps, toys, boxes w/contents, and some antiques.

Because the sale will be held inside, don't worry about the weather. And, yes, food and beverages will be available.

Please note that the AVFD continues to collect items for this auction. Items may be dropped off at the firehouse by the storage building beside the truck-bay. Or, to arrange for pick-up, call Steve at (434)581-3002.

Proceeds benefit the AVFD, a group of dedicated firefighters who respond when we need them. And, who, when they send in an announcement like this one, add that they want to be sure to thank the community for its continued support of their fundraisers.

CVCS Golf Tournament

Central Virginia Christian School is gearing up for its seventh CVCS Golf Tournament.

This annual fundraiser is planned for April 28 at the Farmville Municipal Golf Course.

The Captain's Choice Tournament is open to all golfers who want to form teams of four and enjoy a day of golfing and good food.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three teams, closest to the pin, and longest drive.

Community Yard Sale

Buckingham's Relay for Life is sponsoring a Community Yard Sale on Saturday, March 31, beginning at 8 a.m., in the parking lot of Farmers Bank. The sale will feature crafts, new and used items, baked goods, and

All Buckingham Relay for Life Teams may arrange for a free space. Non-relay vendors and sellers may secure a space with a donation of $20 or more, with proceeds benefiting the Relay for Life-Buckingham.

Relay for Life-Buckingham, is an annual event for the American Cancer Society. This year's Relay is scheduled for May 19.
