The Herald, And Community, Applauded

Editor, The Herald:

The Farmville Herald is a terrific little newspaper. Your November 16th edition clearly told the news, as it is, in Prince Edward and surrounding counties as I can attest during my week as a judicial visiting scholar at Hampden-Sydney College. The front page article on the recent County School Board Resolution concerning the reparations Prince Edward County is owed as a result of “Massive Resistance” from 1959-1964 is an example of compelling news coverage. As an avid newspaper reader of many years, I say bravo to your wonderful bi-weekly paper.

My stay at Hampden-Sydney College and visits to Farmville were unparallelled positive professional experiences. To have such bright national stars as President and First Lady Dr. Christopher B. and Barbara Howard at Hampden-Sydney, in your area, together with my hosts Dr. David E. Marion of the Wilson Center, Professor Celia Carroll Jones and local attorney Antonio Pierre Jackson, made my visit all the more special. Prince Edward County generally, Farmville, and especially Hampden-Sydney College shall always have a special place, over the mountains, in my heart.
