In the spring of 2011, I sent out letters of petition to have the newly-renovated schools on Route 20 in Dillwyn return to the original name of Carter G. Woodson. Many people signed the petitions and I want to thank them for the support given.

I was contacted by a member of the local NAACP Branch who said this was a matter that should be an undertaking of an organization, not an individual. The member also said that plans were underway for presenting this issue before the school board. At that point, I decided to let them handle the issue.

The school is slated to be opened in spring 2012 and as of yet I have not heard of the issue being brought before the school board. If you would like to see action, please contact the Buckingham NAACP and insist action be taken. For those who signed the petitions, I still have them and will turn them over to the NAACP at their request.
