October 6 – Here we are in October – where did the summer go? All of the Clubs and organizations have resumed meeting after the summer hiatus; the children have been back in school for weeks; and Christmas is less than 80 days away! Yikes!

During the month of October there are many observances including Breast Cancer Awareness Month; Fire Prevention Week; Columbus Day (a National holiday); and Halloween.

And the month of October also brings celebrations of harvest by many organizations.

Mark these dates:

At noon on Thursday, October 13, the Women's Groups of Bethlehem and Douglas Presbyterian Churches will hold a luncheon at Mimmo's Restaurant in Charlotte Court House.

On Saturday, October 15, the Abilene Community Club will hold their annual Harvest Festival and Stew at the Abilene Community Center with Stewmistress Nancy Nelson overseeing the stew pot.

In concert with the stew, the Abilene Homemakers Club will hold their annual Bake and Craft Sale with the drawing for the quilt raffle.

Also on Oct. 15, the Douglas Presbyterian Church will hold a yard sale at Joe and Brenda Irving's on Abilene Road.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, there will be a Harvest Party and “Trunk or Treat” at the Douglas Presbyterian Church on Douglas Church Road followed by food and fellowship in the Church.

Belated anniversary greetings to Fred and Heather Cathron who celebrated on Oct. 2.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Madeline Slaydon and Bob Bissett who will celebrate their birthdays on Oct. 7.
