Beatrice Watson, 82

MAY 17 – Beatrice Marie Pairet Watson died peacefully at the age of 82 on Sunday, May 15, 2011. “Betty Ree” was a lifelong resident of Farmville and the daughter of Minnie Stombock and Larkin Monroe Pairet.
Mrs. Watson graduated from Longwood College in 1949 and taught math and English at Auburn High School in Riner while Mr. Watson attended Virginia Tech. After moving back to Farmville in 1950, she was a member of the Farmville Junior Women's Club and served as Virginia State Junior Vice President from 1962-64 and a member of the Farmville Baptist Church and served faithfully in various duties as a clerk, teller, deacon and Sunday school teacher. Her hobbies included playing bridge, golf and cheering on the Hokies of Virginia Tech. She took great pride in her career as a wife and mother but also as a surrogate mother for many of her children's friends.
She is survived by four children, William Eugene “Gene” Watson, Larkin Louise Fields, Marie Maxey Goodpasture and Margaret Ford Whitlock; brother, E.M. “Sonny” Pairet; brother-in-law, James “Max” Watson; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William Abner “Billy” Watson III.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at the Puckett Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at the Farmville Baptist Church with interment at the Westview Cemetery.
