Editor, The Herald:

The members of the FACES Board (Farmville Area Community Emergency Fund) would like to thank the community for the support of our efforts during the past holiday season and through out the year. As the number of clients we serve continues to grow we appreciate the youth of the area joining in this effort on Sunday, February 6, Super Bowl Sunday. They will be joining thousands of youth across the country in collecting canned food, other non-perishable food and monetary donations for the Souper Bowl of Caring. This movement began 2 decades ago and has become an international movement. Since 1990, more than 70 million dollars has been raised to help local charities fight hunger and poverty. What an amazing effort on the part of youth joining together for one cause!

All local donations go toward the purchase of food for people in our community who are in need. FACES has seen an increase in the number of clients it serves and is now distributing an average of 750 bags of food on a Saturday. The number of clients keeps growing each week. FACES is located in the former Wilson Oil Company building at 416 N. South Street. $1 and a can of food can go a long way on Souper Bowl Sunday! Monetary donations can be sent to FACES, P.O. Box 644, Farmville and non perishable food items can be dropped off at 416 N. South St. between 8 and 10:30 on Saturdays. Churches can report their total offerings to Souper Bowl, Inc. at www.souperbowl.org or by calling 1-800-358-S0UP. Thank you for your continued support and prayers in this effort.
