Eldridge W. Sanderson

FEBRUARY 8 – Eldridge Walton Sanderson went to be with his Lord on Ground Hog Day, Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He began his life on February 22, 1928, with the payment of a turkey to Dr. Snead. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Sanderson was actively involved in the community through public service. He served on the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors as Chairman for two decades, the Board of Directors of Southern States Cooperative, the Board of The Soil and Water Conservation District, and The Colonial Farm Credit Board of Directors. Throughout his life he was a devoted entrepreneur and steward of the land as a farmer.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Ann Gracey Sanderson; daughters, Ann Carol Sanderson of Richmond, owner and operator of A&L Certified Roofing, LLC; and Ginger Marie Sanderson of Cartersville, Exceptional Education Coordinator for Henrico County Public Schools and Cumberland County School Board member. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, W. P. (Bill) Sanderson Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Audrey S. Robinson of Farmville, and John Wesley Sanderson of Richmond, as well as four sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by William Pollard Sanderson, father; Ada Walton Sanderson, mother; and James Garland Sanderson, brother.

Mr. Sanderson was a life-long member of Thomas Chapel United Methodist Church where a memorial service was held on February 6. Family and friends appreciated fellowship at Ashby Farms on Saturday afternoon, February 5.
