FARMVILLE – The Farmville Police Department announced in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon that it had “executed search warrants at three area businesses on Monday, January 10.”

The searches were the result of what the press release describes as “an extensive, three month investigation” into what police allege to have been “illegal gambling operations.”

The press release, authorized by Chief of Police Doug Mooney, states that “Farmville police were assisted by undercover special agents with the Virginia State Police, deputies from the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Department and after consultation with the Prince Edward County Commonwealth's Attorney. “

The press release also states that “law enforcement personnel seized computers, records, and cash at each location” and that the computers and records will be examined by detectives.

There have been no arrests and no charges filed, Farmville Police Lieutenant Andy Ellington told the Herald on Wednesday, adding “it is still under investigation.”
