CUMBERLAND – A location to hold the Planning Commission's community meeting for the County's recreational area access zoning district in the Trents Mill area has been finalized.
According to Andrew Sorrell, planning director for Cumberland, the meeting will be held in the Cumberland Middle/High School cafetorium.
The meeting is set to start at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 31.
The purpose of the community meeting is to allow the community a chance to hear background information concerning the RA-1 zoning district and to present possible options related to the district's zoning.
During public hearings in November for the proposed industrial/business park rezoning submitted by Cumberland's Industrial Development Authority, many residents in the area voiced opposition to the rezoning which would alter the RA-1 district.
After those hearings, the Board of Supervisors issued a directive to the County's Planning Commission.
On Monday, January 3, the Planning Commission created a plan of action as to how to satisfy the Board's directive. That plan includes holding the community meeting in order to obtain input from citizens. Also, according to the plan, those in attendance at the meeting will be given a survey to complete.
