December 30 – “When you throw out the Christmas tree, be careful not to throw out the Christmas spirit with it.”

The Prospect Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Prospect Fire House at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to come and get involved in saving the history of Prospect.

Recently Mr. and Mrs. Gene (Lois) Southall met Lois's son and wife Robbie and Barbara McPherson at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Richmond for lunch. Robbie and Barbara drove up from Virginia Beach.

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Southall attended the funeral of Lois's brother in-law, Harry Murphy, in Virginia Beach. Mr. Murphy was 87 years young. Following the funeral they were able to visit Lillian Murphy in her home.

Mr. and Mrs. John (Shirley) Fulcher enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Tracy) Fulcher and children. Also present were her parents Mr. and Mrs. Doug (Mary) Hayes. A big time was had by all.

Christmas day John and Shirley Fulcher were delighted to have with them Mr. and Mrs. Lynn (Mary Ann) Fulcher; Mrs. Katie Toney and children, Kenneth, Kyerra, and Ryen; Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Tracy) Fulcher and children Emily, Jonathan and Taylor; Greg Fulcher, and Mr. and Mrs. Ricky (Vicki) Fulcher and children Luke and Kristin for dinner.

Tuesday night John and Shirley Fulcher attended the covered-dish Christmas Banquet for the Gideon's held at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; a large group was present.

Debbie and Dianne Vaughan spent Christmas weekend with their mother, Mrs. Edith Price Vaughan.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Betty) Noblin enjoyed a Christmas dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Shirley) Richardson in Pamplin.

Mr. and Mrs. David (Paula) Noblin and children Brady and Allie from Chesapeake came on Monday to spend a few days with his parents Ray and Betty Noblin. The snow kept them from coming on Christmas day.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Stockton enjoyed Christmas afternoon with their son and his family, Lon, Mary Jo and son Sean. Gifts were exchanged and opened before they shared Christmas dinner.

Sunday, Dec. 26, Richard and Margaret Stockton celebrated their 50 anniversary.

E. Susan Campbell is walking on cloud nine with her daughter and her husband, Billie Jo and Chris Waddell, from Camden, MI, and her son, John Marsden, home with her for Christmas and their Christmas vacation.

Mr. and Mrs. Don (Betty) Meadows had Christmas on Friday with their daughter and her family, Julia and Andy Shotwell and children Josh, Zach and Kate in Richmond.

Donald Meadows came home and spent Christmas day with his parents, Don and Betty Meadows.

Mrs. Julia Shotwell and daughter Kate treated her mother Betty Meadows and mother in-law Lila Shotwell to a “Tea” at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond.

The Kelsey Clan held their annual Christmas gathering on Monday night in the Fellowship Hall of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church. There were between 30 and 40 kin together including Ruth Simpson, Rachel McBride, Peggy and Jim Early of Chesterfield, Jimmy Adams of Atlanta, Georgia, Helen and Charles Breckenridge, Carl and Sadie Kelsey, Gerald Palmer from Florida, Caleb and Nancy Kelsey and children Nick and Abby, Jennifer Kelsey and son Justin Chilton, and other relatives from the area.

Family, friends and neighbors are sending special get well wishes to all those who are sick at this time. Special prayers are needed for Paula Card.

Friends and neighbors are extending their sincere sympathy to Mrs. Dorothy Leatherwood Gillispie on the death of her mother.

Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invites everyone to Sunday School at 10 a.m. with worship at 11a.m. The Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will fill the pulpit this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Calvary Chapel-Farmville is located at 45 Simpson Road in Prospect, two miles west of Dowdy's Corner just off of US 460.

Remember your Christmas tree stays up until 12 days after Christmas and you should have black-eyed peas and stewed tomatoes on New Year's day.

Happy Birthday is wished to all those celebrating their birthdays in January. Your flower is the Carnation and your birthday stone is the Garnet. Those with January birthdays I know about are: T.J.
