Special Meeting For RA-1 Review

CUMBERLAND – The County's Planning Commission will begin discussing Cumberland's recreational area access zoning district on Monday, December 13 during a special called meeting.

The review request was sent as a directive last month from the Board of Supervisors after holding a public hearing on the County's new business park on Poorhouse Road.

During that previous public hearing process for the rezoning request, which was submitted by Cumberland's Industrial Development Authority to rezone the business park property from agricultural and recreational area access to industrial (M-1), many citizens raised questions related to the 40 year old (RA-1) zoning district.

According to Andrew Sorrell, planning and zoning administrator, the Planners will be discussing a “possible plan of action for addressing the Board's request for the Commission to review the district.”

The actual review process will not begin during Monday's meeting, he said, but the Planners will be deciding on a plan as to how the Commission will tackle the request within the 90 day timeframe allocated by the Board.
