GEORGIA, Sept. 16 – Sadie Eloise Cobb Dobbins, 90, of Gainesville, GA died Monday, September 13, 2010 at New Horizons North Nursing Home in Gainesville, GA.
She was born in Prince Edward County on May 26, 1920. She graduated from Longwood College in Farmville with a degree in Education and taught physical education and home economics in several high schools in Charlotte County, Statesville, NC, Valdosta, GA, Toccoa, GA, and at North Hall High School in Gainesville.
In addition to teaching and homemaking, Mrs. Dobbins was an avid volunteer. Service to others was one of her greatest attributes. She always desired to help others.
Mrs. Dobbins was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, volunteered at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, GA, the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, the March of Dimes, and many other volunteer organizations throughout her life. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and was always very active in church life. She was currently a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, GA and an active member of Presbyterian Women's Circle.
Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Francis Henry Dobbins Sr. of Gainesville, GA; sister, Betty Lee Cobb Jones of Charlotte Court House; son and daughter-in-law, Francis Henry “Hank” Dobbins Jr. and Deborah Dobbins of LaGrange, GA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Archer Cobb and Grace Carter Cobb, brother, Henry Archer Cobb Jr., brother-in-law, L.M. Jones, and sister-in-law, Bess Dobbins Maxey, all of Virginia.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 11 a.m. at The Bethlehem Presbyterian in Cullen.
Visitation will be on September 17 between 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home.
A memorial service for Mrs. Dobbins will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, GA in the near future.
