Vincent E. Hecht, 67 US Army Veteran Dies March 2

PAMPLIN, March 5 – Vincent Edward Hecht, 67, of Pamplin, formerly of Virginia Beach, passed away on his beloved farm and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, March 2, 2009. He was a faithful husband, devoted father, and dedicated servant of Jesus Christ.

He owned and operated The Hecht Insurance Agency of Chesapeake. He was a member of the Gideon's International, a Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Elon Baptist Church, Pamplin; and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam war. He loved gardening, woodworking, fishing and squirrel hunting.

Mr. Hecht is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gloria Jean Hecht; a son, Otto Edward Hecht and wife, Jessica of Stafford; a granddaughter, Hannah Jean Hecht of Pensacola, FL; sister, Maureen E. Fields and husband, Zachary; niece, Blair Bush; and nephew, Zachary Russ Fields Jr., all of Jacksonville, FL; aunt, Margaret Conrad of Virginia Beach; numerous cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. (tonight) Thursday, at the Elon Baptist Church, Pamplin, with interment at 1 p.m., Friday, in Riverside Cemetery, Norfolk.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Gideon's International or the Elon Baptist Church Building Fund; flowers may also be sent to the funeral home.

The Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, is serving the family.
