Tommy Epperson, Sr., 87

May 27 – Thomas “Tommy” Irving Epperson Sr., 87, died on Friday, May 23, 2008 at the home of his son in Powhatan. A resident of Buckingham for 75 years, he was born December 30, 1920 to the late William James Epperson and Mattie Fogg Epperson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Celia L. Epperson.

Survivors include his devoted son, Dr. T. Irving Epperson Jr. and wife, Bonnie of Powhatan; a grandson, Dr. Thomas I. Epperson III and wife, Kimberly of Glen Allen; a step-granddaughter, Jessica Baldovin of Powhatan; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Baylor Epperson of Glen Allen; a sister-in-law, Audrey C. Llewellyn of Buckingham; and a number of nephews and niece all of whom he adored throughout his life.

Mr. Epperson was a life long member of Mulberry Grove Baptist Church where he served as superintendent of Sunday School, chairman of the Deacons, and choir member for many years. He was retired as postmaster at Buckingham and he also owned and operated the Epperson Printing Company. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, as well as a member of the Ruritan Club. He was instrumental in organizing Buckingham County's Volunteer Fire Department. Tommy was well known for his humor, love of life and all whom he met, and his devotion to God and family.

A funeral service will be held at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 28, at 11 a.m., followed by interment in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday (today) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home.
