Stephen M. Robertson, 34 Of Lynchburg Dies September 11

LYNCHBURG, Sept. 15 – Stephen Mott Robertson, 34, of Lynchburg, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, September 11, 2009.

Stephen was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School. After graduation, he attended Ferrum College. At the time of his death, he was employed by Lynchburg General Hospital where he worked in the Food Services Department. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Music was an important aspect of Stephen's life; he loved to sing and play the violin and piano. He began taking violin lessons with the Suzuki program in second grade and continued playing with the Lynchburg Strings Orchestra through high school. In college, he continued playing violin with the school orchestra and also sang in the gospel choir. In addition to music, Stephen avidly enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by his parents, Sherwood Taylor Seibert and her husband, Paul and Dr. John Mott Robertson, Jr. and his wife, Diane; brothers, Dr. John Douglas Robertson and his wife, Cathryn of Montgomery, Alabama and Dr. Thomas Carter Robertson and his wife, Cynthia of Richmond. Also surviving is his maternal grandmother, Martha McCorkle Tennant of Farmville. He was the beloved uncle of four nieces and one nephew, Elizabeth, Mead, William and Leighton Robertson of Montgomery, Alabama and Molly Robertson of Richmond; aunts and uncles, Greg Robertson, Sarah and Arnie Gnilka and Elizabeth Dupree; cousins, Philip and Alex Gnilka, Taylor Dupree, and step-brothers and sisters, Laura Fortsch, Bruce Rhodes, Cary Rhodes, Matthew Seibert, and Dr. Gretchen Seibert.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John Scholer officiating. Interment followed in Spring Hill Cemetery.
