NEW CANTON, June 22 -Samuel Buck Jones, Jr., 66, of New Canton, died Thursday, June 17,2004.

Born July 9, 1937 in Buckingham County, he was a son of the late Sam and Maude Riddle Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Frances (Frankie) Jones; two sons, Samuel M. Jones of Charlottesville and Melvin Jones of Louisa; a stepson, Thaddeus Green of Troy; three daughters, Valerie Bradley of Palmyra, Teresa James of Louisa and Cathy Scruggs of Kansas City, KS; two stepdaughters, Sharon Ragland and Chrissy Burnley both of Buckingham; four sisters, Betty W. Dean, Maude E. Jones and Beatrice Boiling all of New Canton and Lenora J. Jones of Richmond; a brother, Henry B. Jones of New Canton; four sons-in-law, Joseph Scruggs, Ricky Burnley, William Bradley and Kenneth Ragland; two brothers-in-law, Joseph E. Dean of New Canton and James Jennings of La Mita, CA; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service was held 2 p.m. Monday at the Frances Redwood Center, Arvonia, with the Rev. Roderick Galloway and the Rev. Harold Powers officiating. Interment followed in the Arvonia Community Cemetery.

Colbert Funeral Home, Bremo Bluff, was in charge of arrangements.
