Ruth Corder Haney, 95

SEPTEMBER 2 – Ruth Corder Haney, 95, of Philippi, West Virginia and Farmville, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2009 in Farmville. She was born in Philippi, WV, May 11, 1913, the daughter of the late James Stanley and Audry Dyer Corder and the sister of the late Robert Stanley Corder. She was the granddaughter of the late Edmond Roger and Philena McWhorter Dyer and William Alonzo and Nancy Jane Reynolds Corder.

Ruth was married to Doyle L. Haney, September 5, 1936 in Winchester. She graduated from Philippi High School in 1931, attended Broddus College, was a graduate of Temple Business College in Washington, DC, and received a professional diploma from Kings School of Oratory in Pittsburgh, PA.

Mrs. Haney was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, Philippi Chapter Number 41, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a charter member of the Arktaean Club. She was a member of the Philippi Crim Memorial United Methodist Church, attended the Heritage Baptist Church in Farmville, and was a friend of the Guthrie Memorial Chapel in Farmville.

Her husband, Doyle L. Haney preceded Mrs. Haney in death in 1999. She is survived by a son, Dr. Ronald Lloyde Haney of Farmville, and a daughter, Janey Haney Kortas, son-in-law, John R. Kortas and grandson, Robert J. Kortas of Lewisburg, WV.

The funeral of Ruth C. Haney will be Thursday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church in Philippi, WV. Officiating will be the Rev. Ann W. Harrison and the Pastor of the Philippi Crim Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at 1 p.m., one hour before the funeral.

Donations may be made to the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.
