CUMBERLAND, May 1 – Mrs. Allie Brown Mathews, 91, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008. She was born in Cumberland County on March 13, 1917, the daughter of the late Anson and Lottie Ranson Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Conduff Mathews and sister, Elizabeth Brown.

She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Groneweg and husband, Gary of Cumberland; a granddaughter, Dr. Elizabeth G. Hazelgrove and husband, Robert P. Hazelgrove; and many other family members and devoted friends.

Mrs. Mathews was a loyal and lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday evening at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m. from Centenary United Methodist Church with interment following in the church cemetery.

Remembrances may be made in her memory to Centenary United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Cumberland Volunteer Rescue Squad.
