DILLWYN – July 10 – Jud “Ray” Lester Sr., 71, of Dillwyn, died Monday, July 7, 2008. He was born March 22, 1937 in McDowell County, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Frances Harris Elgin Lester of 20 years.

Ray was the loving father of two sons and three daughters, Jud Lester Jr., Terry “Jay” Lester Sr. and wife, Belinda of Dillwyn; Peggy Lester Peters and husband, Jack of Ashland, Oregon, Penny Lester Clack, Pebbles Lester Frink and husband, Jeff of Bend, Oregon; step-children, Larry Elgin of Charlotte Court House, Judith Long, Deborah Vance, Bobbie Elgin and wife, Brenda of Chesterfield; brothers, Ralph Lester and wife Phillis, the late Roy Lester of Medford, Oregon; sisters, Teresa Martin and husband, Jimmy, and Debbie Burnoski and husband, Don of Medford, Oregon; grandchildren, Terry J. Lester Jr., Melinda Lester Jordan, Tamra Lester and Ashley Peters; 11 step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and 23 step-great-grandchildren.

Ray was a member of Cedar Baptist Church. He loved to spend time with his family and telling old wise tales about the younger years. He spent his last days at Ruxton Health with his wife by his side everyday. Frances was his soul mate.

The family of Ray Lester would like to give special thanks to the Ruxton Health staff and the Buckingham County Rescue Squad for all they have done. Ray will be missed by all that knew him.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, July 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home in Dillwyn, with services to be held at Cedar Baptist Church on Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Cemetery Fund at Cedar Baptist Church, or Buckingham Rescue Squad.
