Joseph Henry Walters, 82 Father of Local Resident, Dies

AUGUST 3 – Joseph Henry Walters, Sr., 82, formerly of Chesterfield, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the home of his daughter in Dillwyn. He was the husband of the late Virginia Gale Walters.

Mr. Walters retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and Midlothian Lodge #211 AF&AM.

He is survived by nine sons, Joseph H., Jr., Michael L., Terry D., Jon K., Steven E., Richard A., Kenneth G., Timothy W. and Daniel L. also five daughters, Rosa Lee, Jo Anna Hatton, Sue E. Atkinson, Carol Lynn and Gale E. Blair; 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A Masonic Funeral Service will be held 7 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) at the Chesterfield Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Parkway, where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel with interment in Dale Memorial Park with military honors.
