SCOTTSVILLE, Oct. 19 – James Alexander Wood, Sr., known by friends as “Jimmy” and by family as “Alec”. Went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 17, 2004, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born March 12, 1940, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Daniel Wood, Sr. and Annie Warsing Wood Davis and a sister, Adelle Cumbey.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mae Dorrier Wood; two children, Terri Elizabeth Zimmerman and her husband, Gordon (JR) and James Alexander Wood, Jr. (Buck) and his wife, Lyla; four grandchildren, Albert Lewis Baber (Scooter), Brian Keith Baber, James Alexander Wood, III (Alex) and Daniel Lynn Wood; three brothers, John Wood and his wife, Wanda, George Wood and his wife, Shirley and Franklin Wood and his wife, Betty; three sisters, Anne Jamerson and her husband, Irving, Audrey Smith and her husband, Fred and Joyce Edwards and her husband, Francis; two brothers-in-law, Bobby Dorrier and Tommy Cumbey; a very special friend, Lynn Goff; a special cousin, Ted Higginbotham and multiple nieces and nephews.

“Jimmy” was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a special friend to many, many people In his community. He shared his wisdom, kindness and zest for life with everyone he knew or just met. He owned a restaurant, was a loyal member of the Carpenter Union, owned and operated a dump truck and accomplished his dream of becoming a farmer. With “Jimmy”, all things were possible and in the end he accomplished what is most important in life.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsvllle, with the Reverend Ernie Lassahn officiating. Interment will follow at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery, Centenary. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) October 19, 2004 at the funeral home.
