Graveside Service To Be Held Wednesday For Zella S. Garnett

CUMBERLAND, Dec. 22 – Zella Shumaker Garnett, of Cumberland County, died in Farmville on Monday, December 21, 2009. She was born in Buckingham County on May 20, 1913, the daughter of the late Harrison and Bettie Shumaker. She was the widow of the late Robert E. Garnett. She was also preceded in death by a son, R. Edmund III, and by two sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Sue Mahan and husband, Clyde; granddaughter, Kim Hodgson and husband, Jim; grandson, Clyde E. (Roby) Mahan; two great-grandchildren, Tom and Katherine Hodgson; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Judy Womack and husband, Charles and their two sons, Michael and John and their families; and a close friend, Shyleen (Charlie) White.
She was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cumberland County, and was a sales clerk in the ladies department of Baldwins Department Store for many years.
As were her wishes, there will be no visitation and there will be a graveside service which will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Remembrances may be made to the cemetery fund of Centenary Church.
Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville, is in charge of the service.
