Graveside Service Held Tuesday For Virginia Henderlite, 91

RICHMOND, Dec. 8 – Virginia Smith Henderlite, 91, of Richmond passed away Friday, December 4, 2009 in Richmond. She was born May 13, 1918 in Morgan County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late James H. and Virginia C. Smith.

She went to Montreat College for two years where she earned her associate degree. She was appointed missionary to Brazil in 1948. She graduated from Presbyterian School of Christian Education in 1953 and served as a Missionary for 44 years.

Mrs. Henderlite is survived by a stepson, Courtney F. Henderlite of Richmond; sister, Janet Ruth Smith Park of Dade City, Florida; sister-in-law, Lena Madison Smith of Skipwith; six grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Langdon M. Henderlite, siblings, Maclin McCarty Smith, James Hoge Smith Jr., Margaret Nall Smith, Frederick Andrew Smith and Martha Caroline Smith Garvin and stepsons, Hunter F. Henderlite and Langdon M. Henderlite Jr.

A graveside service was held Tuesday (today) at Westview Cemetery in Farmville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Hanover Presbyterian Church, 10058 Chamberlain Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116.

Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, was in charge of arrangements.
