Graveside Service For William “Bill” Swan, 85 Set Saturday, 2 P.M.

BUCKINGHAM, Feb. 25 – William (Bill) Everett Swan, 85, formerly of Buckingham, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home in Lynchburg. He was the husband of the late Gracie Taylor Swan.
Born November 17, 1924 in Buckingham County, he was the son of the late Willie and Carrie Swan.
He is survived by a son, Billy Everette Swan and wife, Brenda of Dillwyn; brother, Hugh Swan of Madison Heights, and grand-son, Steve Swan of Dillwyn. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Corrine Kidd, Gladys Kesterson, Ouida Adcock and Doris Rosser.
Mr. Swan ran a country store for many years and was a retired employee of the Virginia Dept. of Transportation where he worked for over 20 years.
He served his country for three years during World War II, including fighting in the Battle Of The Bulge.
He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Woodland United Methodist Church Cemetery with Buddy Bryant officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Dunkum Funeral Home from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland United Methodist Church.
