Gladys O. Orange, 88 Of Farmville Dies February 7

FEBRUARY 10 – Gladys Oertel Orange, 88, of Farmville, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond. She is the wife of Marvin H. Orange of Farmville.

Born in Cumberland County on May 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Willie Oertel Sr. and Allie Browning Oertel. She was a loving and cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Oertel of Farmville, and a sister, Christine Frazier of Whittier, CA. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, William M. Orange and wife, Virginia of Bumpass, and Kathy Orange Judkins and husband, Mike of Winston-Salem, NC; six granddaughters, Deannie Wall of Ashland, Christy Tomasello, Terry Sacra and Lorri Harris of Bumpass, Sherry Thomas of Midlothian, and Kristin Judkins of Charlotte, NC; 10 great-grandchildren, Timmy, R.D., Ayron, Donald, Jared, Katlyn, Rebecca, Jason, Christopher, Haley and Steve; and her “adopted” daughter, Ella Harris; two brothers, Willie Oertel Jr. and Robert J. Oertel of Farmville; six sisters, Dorothy Lynn, Teresa Shelton, Bula Tunstall of Farmville, Eliza Duncan of Lynchburg, Minnie Taylor of Rincon, GA, Joyce Ingle of Cumberland and many nieces and nephews.

She was a life-long member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church devoting many years to teaching Sunday school, directing Bible School and actively participating with the “Women of the Church.”

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dale Brown officiating. Burial followed at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church cemetery.
