MARCH 23 – Marion Papas Hawkins, 86, of Farmville, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010 at her home. She was the widow of Millard H. Hawkins.

Born in Newport News, April 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Mike and Grace Roberts Papas. She was a home-maker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is survived by her daughter, Vacelo H. Moore, Farmville; two sons, Mike Hawkins (Bernice) of Spotsylvania and Frederick L. “Freddie” Hawkins of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Suzanne Moore of Farmville, Wayne Hawkins of Zion, IL, Ryann Hawkins, Tracey Payne and Angela Beach of Fredericksburg, Kelly Hawkins of Richmond, Shaun Hawkins of Albany, GA, Tracy Williams of Richmond, Mandy Nealy of Midlothian, and Christopher and Daniel Hawkins of Rock Hill, SC; great-grandchildren, Devin Moore of Farmville, Timmy, Brittany and Sophia Hawkins, Sara, Allie, Richard and Raymond Payne, Hannah and Katie Beach, Gavin, Baxton and Laila Hawkins, Will and Luci Milo, Carson and Leah Nealy, and two great-great grandchildren. Other survivors special to her are Gale Hawkins, Cathy Hawkins, and her loyal caregiver, Suntrease Green. She was predeceased by her other son, Walter.

Most recently, Ms. Hawkins worked for Dr. Anthony Munoz for 10 years, and then worked at Cumberland County Schools for 10 years until she retired to spend more time with her be-loved husband. A great source of pleasure was the beauty of nature and the world around her; and the love of her church provided her a wonderful sense of peace. For many years until she was no longer able to do so, she loved planting flowers, vegetable gardening, and preserving food from the garden. Her greatest pride and joy was her family who she loved dearly. She will be sorely missed by her family and others whose lives she touched.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Burkeville. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m., Tuesday (tonight) at Puckett Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Virginia, Farmville; Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Farmville; or the Alzheimer's Association of Virginia.

Arrangements by Puckett Funeral Home of Farmville.
