Funeral Service To Be Held February 8 For Howell Newton, 92

ARVONIA, Feb. 4 – Howell Adam Newton, 92, of Arvonia, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010. He was born October 5, 1917 in Buckingham County, to the late Charles Newton and Helen Virginia Thomas Newton. He was the widower of the late George G. Newton and Nannie G. Newton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy H. Resnick, two granddaughters, Dianne N. Trammell and Debbie N. Whitworth.

He is survived by five children, Helen N. Noble of Bum-pass, Howell L.B. Newton of New Canton, Phyllis Newton (Sally), Marshall Newton (Peter), and a devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sarah (Betty) and James Spencer of Arvonia; 13 grand-children; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Newton was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He loved his family and he was Papa Newt to his great-great-grandchildren. He was Mr. Fix It and could repair anything. Everyone loved and respected his knowledge of the years passed. He loved bluegrass gospel music. In his younger years he loved to hunt and fish and loved to raise his garden in the spring.

Family night will be at Dunkum Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral will be held at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church on Monday at 1 p.m., with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Contributions can be made to Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
