ARVONIA, March 4 – Nannie Gormus Newton, 81, of Arvonia. died Wednesday, March 3, 2004.

Born in Buckingham County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Laura Wharam Gormus.

She is survived by her husband, Howell A. Newton; a foster daughter, JoAnn Stanley of Dillwyn; three sisters, Annie Mae Bryant and Margaret Stout of Dillwyn and Sarah G. Davis of New Canton; two brothers, Walter Gormus of Dillwyn and Clarence (Monk) Gormus of New Canton; a granddaughter and very loving and devoted stepchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and William Gormus.

Mrs. Newton was a life member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Arvonia, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colbert Funeral Home, Bremo Bluff.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Heritage Hall Nursing of Dillwyn.
