FARMVILLE – Longwood University President Patrick Finnegan was released from Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Monday, according to LU spokesperson Dennis Sercombe.

President Finnegan, a retired Brigadier General in the United States Army, was admitted to Walter Reed last week to be treated for pneumonia.

“I am glad to report that Pres. Finnegan was released from the hospital yesterday,” Sercombe wrote in a Tuesday email responding to Herald inquiries, “and he is looking forward to being back on campus soon.”

Sercombe, Associate Vice-President for Marketing and Communications, added, “He and First Lady Joan Finnegan will be returning to Farmville tomorrow night (Wednesday).”

LU is uncertain when President Finnegan, who was Dean at West Point before accepting the presidency of Longwood, will return to his office on campus.
